Saucer Magnolia Trees |
| |
Saucer Magnolia trees are hybrid Magnolia trees. They are decidious flowering trees that grow best in USDA plant hardiness zones 4 through 9.
Saucer Magnolia trees can grow to reach a height of 25'. The spread of their branches can equal the 25' height. The striking feature of the Saucer Magnolia tree is that it produces fragrant, purple-pink-white blooms in the spring. The flowers arrive before the tree puts out it's leaves. The flowers can be up to 10" in size and the spread of the petals is reminiscent of the shape of a cup and saucer.
Saucer Manolia trees are good specimen trees in a suburban setting. They can look especially striking against a backdrop of evergreen foundation shrubs or pine trees. They should be planted in fertile, well drained soil and in full or partial sun.
If you live in a area where late frosts often ruin early flowers, you should consider planting your Saucer Magnolia on the north side of a building. This positioning may delay the blooming long enough to protect the flowers from frost.
